Committees
Community Safety and Accountability Committee:
Co-Chairs Jane Ramsey and D. Clancy
Contributes to these issues by supporting sensible gun safety legislation at all levels of government; ensuring that the Department of Justice consent decree regarding Chicago Police Department reform is carried out; working with community groups and presenting speakers on these issues; increasing public and private investment in economically disadvantaged communities; and informing the CWTA general membership about them so that they can take educated action. Additionally, we actively support the newly-organized Chicago Police District Councils and the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, which we helped create with a citywide coalition.
Education Committee
Chair: Jeanette Foreman
The Education Committee of Chicago Women Take Action - Chicago is dedicated to advancing educational equity and quality at local, state, and national levels. We advocate for policies that support justice, equity, and the fair distribution of resources to ensure high-quality education for all students with special focus on students historically marginalized and low income communities
A central focus of our work is addressing the challenges within Chicago Public Schools (CPS), particularly in neighborhood schools where a significant number of students perform below grade level. We are committed to rectifying existing inequities to ensure all students, regardless of their background or neighborhood, have access to the education and support necessary for success.
Health Committee:
Co-Chairs Mary Driscoll and Deb Rosenberg
Works in the movement for universal health care; focusing on health equity, standing for women’s health and reproductive justice, and opposing cuts in the ACA, Medicaid, and Medicare.
