Gun violence remains a pressing issue across our nation, affecting families, communities, and public safety. Join CWTA for a discussion on research about the effects of juvenile detention, the status of the Chicago police consent decree, and information about current efforts to improve community safety in Chicago and across Illinois. Speakers: Dr. Linda Teplin from Northwestern University, Craig Futterman, JD from University of Chicago, and Robert Emmons, Jr. from One Aim Illinois.

Dr. Linda A. Teplin is the Director of the Health Disparities and Public Policy Program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is the Primary Investigator for the Northwestern Project, the first large-scale longitudinal study of mental health needs and outcomes of delinquent youth after detention. For nearly two decades, the Northwestern Project has tracked and re-interviewed nearly 2000 participants, first recruited when they entered the Cook County Temporary Juvenile Detention center when they were ages 10-18 years.

Craig B. Futterman is a Clinical Professor of Law at the University of Chicago Law School and a Resident Dean in the College. He founded and has served as the Director of the Civil Rights and Police Accountability Project of the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic since 2000.
